about LASER TAG SOUND TRACK
What does it mean that our games, our films, and our wars resemble each other so completely?
Laser Tag Sound Track will engage the connections between recreation, gaming, blockbuster films, role-playing, soundtrack, war, trauma, duty, broadcast media ("reality journalism"), and the possible effects of such unselfconsciously mimetic behaviors!
This participatory multimedia performance is a blend of experimental soundtracks, speculative journalism, and architectural re-inquiry, all in a functioning laser tag facility. Curated experimental compositions play as the soundtrack for six games, where the audience will explore soundscapes as active participants. Audience members will also be able to act within each game as "embedded" scenario journalists. They will be loaned equipment for recording a live audio track, which will be aired in real-time on a mobile radio broadcasting unit. Each game will be prefaced by a short theatrical narrative by a different Los Angeles artist.
